Film Analysis: Creed
Comprehending conflict management is essential for effective communication. In reality, people do not always use strong conflict management strategies, but rather fluctuate between ineffective and effective conflict resolution practices. Creed, a film depicting the rise of Adonis Creed in the boxing world, is also illustrative of this point. In Creed, Adonis and his trainer, boxing legend Rocky Balboa, demonstrate successful and unsuccessful conflict resolution practices as witnessed by different perspectives such as relationship/face-saving goals, microevents, and principled negotiation.

Adonis has a relational goal of having Balboa become his trainer. In contrast, Balboa has an identity goal of avoiding being Adonis’s trainer. Although Balboa answers no to Adonis’s request, this dialogue ends as a success for both parties. Balboa maintains his identity by saying no to Adonis and Adonis begins the foundations of a relationship with Balboa for future endeavors.
Microevents
A microevent in the film offers an unsuccessful implementation of conflict resolution. Microevents are smaller events/scenes that gives third-parties clues about the bigger picture in a conflict (Hocker, & Wilmot, 2014). After training, Adonis is packing in the locker room and accidentally stumbles upon chemotherapy pamphlets given to Balboa. Just after Adonis finds the pamphlets, Balboa walks in and is met by a confused Adonis wondering why he was not told about his cancer. This scene reveals how much more Rocky is invested in Adonis’s success rather his own health and success.

For example, during the scene in which Adonis finds out that Rocky has cancer, Rocky begins complaining about how he misses his wife since she is dead and how he has no future since his past fame is beyond him.
