A few courses from my time at Northwestern have helped me to gain a better understanding of the adoption process. The primary class that has helped me develop knowledge related to adoption is Group Theory and Practice. Though the class did not provide me with beneficial information specifically related to adoption, the big course project greatly assisted me in learning about adoptive families and birth mom. I put a lot of time and energy in research birth moms, which provided me with a lot of helpful information when I am also talking with adoptive families.
Another class that has prepared me for working with adoption is Human Behavior in the Social Environment. Adoption counselors at LFS are required to home visits after families are placed
