Getting an advance directive is very important for an adult because it gives you a chance to plan out your life before you become unable to do so ourselves. There are three forms of advance directives “a conversation with their physician, a living will, or a durable power of attorney” (Emanuel,1997). With each directive, it is preparing you for just in case the worse happens it helps you plan things out and planning things are very important in life. But planning everything in advance you are able to save money and save the family members of the patient from all the stress in trying to figure out what to do about that patient’s health and what would they have liked to do. In the article, they did an interview with many people who never knew about advance directives and whether they would like to do one in the future. In the article.” At least one of the three forms of advance directives were desired by 93 percent of the patients and we found that 89 percent of the members of the general public also wanted one or more of the three forms of planning” (Emanuel,1997). This shows that if people knows about advance directives many people will invest in one or more of the directive process to save them the time, money and headache when something severe happens to them and they are not competent enough to make the decisions on their own. Another important reason that a person should invest in doing one of the advance directive routes is because if they do not invest in one of them and something happens to them where they are unable to make decision, the judge has the ability to assign whoever they want to make the decisions whether it is their attorney, doctor, friends or family. They will have the ability to make whatever decisions concerning
