A: One advantage of administering the interest inventory is that the examiner (in this case, myself) gains a better understanding of the student’s background knowledge, interest, and motivations in relation to reading. That information can then be used to provide intentional instruction specific to each student. Another advantage of the interest inventory is that it gives the examiner a better understanding of reading or literacy practices that are being used at home. Knowing more about the student’s home life can help when accommodating for student specific instruction. The inventory also provides the examiner with information that is not usually gained though other cognitive assessments.

Another advantage is that the survey collects data pertaining to the student’s attitudes and feeling about reading at school, at home, and reading for pleasure. This survey reaches beyond the classroom setting to gain a broader view of the student’s attitude towards reading as a whole.
D: One disadvantage of the reading attitude survey is that the questions are fairly broad. This made it harder to narrow down the information to use it to inform further instruction. Another disadvantage of the survey is that the emoji faces limit the student’s responses. The student may have a different attitude toward the question besides happy, okay, and sad.
L: One limitation of the reading attitude survey is that is does not provide the “why.” The examiner gains information on the student’s attitude towards reading, but the format of the survey does not necessarily allow for students to explain why they have that attitude. The “why” is a very important aspect when gaging student’s attitudes and feelings towards …show more content…
I made sure to address and correct any print concepts that the student misunderstood during the assessment. The results from the concepts of print assessment gave me reason to emphasize instructional piece that are usually overlooked (ex: the front of the book).

A: One advantage of the initial consonant sounds test is that it allows the examiner to determine whether or not the student has developed awareness of the beginning consonant sounds. This short test allows the teacher to gage whether or not beginning consonant sounds are something that the student is struggling with.
D: One disadvantage of the initial consonant sound test is that it is administered orally. My Shuler struggled with oral assessments because it was harder to keep her engaged and focused. Another disadvantage of the assessment is that the examiner (I) could only read though a row of words twice. Shuler may have had more success with the test if I could have read some of the rows a third time, especially in the
