Twain gives the youth he is speaking to information which is usually regarded as important information necessary for every generation. Each point is highlighted in the topic sentence of each paragraph including telling youth to “[a]lways obey your parents” and to “[g]o to bed early, get up early,” never get caught lying, and much more. In moments, Twain can be as ironic in speech as he is in writing. Twain does this to both lighten the mood while giving potentially life changing advice to youth and to keep the audience’s attention but it is through this irony that he conveys his most important message.
