Aesop’s fable The City Mouse and the Country Mouse tells a moral that has existed for a long time, which says, “It is better to live in self-sufficient poverty than to be tormented by the worries of wealth.” (The Norton Anthology World Literature, pg. 633) In other words, wealth will not permanently provide happiness or solve all problems, and wealth can frequently create additional unhappiness and worry.
