American Revolution, which also known as the American War of Independence, took place in 1775 and ended in 1783. The heroes of the American Revolution were not just white men.but both African Americans and women played an important roles in the Revolutionary War.
Although most Americans have forgot their contribution, African-Americans were a vital part of the war. They made contribution in several aspects. On the one hand, as Ayres (n.d) stated, “Most black soldiers were scattered throughout the Continental Army in integrated infantry regiments, where they were often assigned to support roles as wagoners, cooks, waiters or artisans. ” In addition, “Blacks also served in the ranks of the allies of the American rebels. Although slavery still existed, they were still willing to be a part of military to fight against British and made contribution for America. For women, The war also gave some women the opportunity to demonstrate their capacity to assume responsibilities regarded as male. Only when the country becomes independent can the individual have freedom. In front of the country, the collective interests are more important than the personal interests.
