African Diaspora refers to the spread of the Africans descendent around the globe. Herskovit was one of the researches that wanted to present us with the connection of Africans and African’s descendants in the United States. Like it was mention on the video “Herskovits at the Heart of Blackness” many of the African descendants conserved their culture and it was seen throughout their music, food and folklore dances that can be traced back to the African’s culture. During Herskovits time period and even now days many African’s decedent people are not aware of their heritage or denies it fearing they get discriminated if they are view different.
Even though the world had made progress against discrimination they are still many places that are still racist. Racism is one of the topics most commonly faced by the African descendants that are dispersing around the globe. In Iraq Mohammed Abras is a man that considers himself Iraqi; he dresses, speaks the language, and practices the religion as the light skin people. In Iraq, the blacks were considered an important part of Iraqi society therefore they were treated as any other Iraqi. We Puerto Ricans are consider being a mixture of Tainos, Africans, and Spanish. Every year we prepared the Puerto Rican day where student perform dances from Africans, Spanish and Tainos, they have different types of influential food, and they read poems. It is a day where we celebrate with pride our three influence races that developed our culture. If someone ask me if I was black, my answer would be “Yes” as well if they ask me if I am Spanish or Taino because I do consider myself having all these three races in me and even though I might be light skin, I am aware that my family can be traced back to the African
