While researching elephants, I found some sources that explain things I didn’t know about elephants. Did you know that the African Male elephant is the biggest land animal in the world. Also, the way researchers tell the African and Asian elephants apart are by their ears. From books, online sources, and encyclopedias, the information I found was amazing. I’m writing this because I want to know more about elephants and while researching, I found information I never knew before. My goal of this paper is too inform more people about elephants and how they live.

The African male elephant is the largest land animal on earth. They can stand up to 13 feet tall and 24 feet long. They can weigh up to 7 tons or 14,000 pounds. The female elephants are only a few feet shorter in length and about a foot or 2 shorter in height. The scientific name of the African elephants from the website, is Loxodonta Africana. The African elephant’s ears radiate heat to help keep cool, but sometimes the heat is too much. The African elephant used to be extinct, but now the herds are getting bigger and bigger. The African elephants, in the wild, will live 70-80 years. In captivity on the other hand, the elephants normally live up to only 50 years. Elephants always have better things in the wild that help them live longer than when they are captive. As the elephants get older in the wild, they still have their freedom with the other elephants, but in the wild, they normally get put in a different cage to be taken care of. (Britannica.com). Asian elephants, in the wild, only live up to 45 years. Sometimes they will live a few years older. In captivity, they only live up to about 35 years. Same thing with the African elephants, they have freedom in the wild, but as they get older in captivity, they get put in a different cage. (Britannica.com).
