Children have been participating in school sports for about 100 years, but some feel it is time for the athletic activities to go. School sports sometimes cost too much, which denies opportunities for other after-school activities. Therefore, school sports should be removed to benefit district’s budgets, increase children’s study time, and rid of distractions. Many people know that it is an important factor to have a stable budget for schools so that the children of America have an excellent academic experience. According to an article written by Amanda Ripley, it was found that after school sports equipment is very expensive (Ripley 11). Also, many schools have concession stands at their sports games, but sometimes the snacks and drinks that are sold at the games are simply not enough to make up for the mass costs of school sports (Ripley 11). It is obvious that schools should be putting money towards academic subjects other than after school sports so that way teachers can provide the best education they can. “In the fall of 2012 at Premont High school, they decided to rid of school sports which led to 80 percent of the students passing their classes in the first semester compared to 50 percent of the students in the previous fall.” (Ripley 11). This data goes to show how important study time is, so schools should officially remove school sports for the sake of American children.
