In the United States, all 50 states characterize stalking as a criminal offense. Whether you know the stalker or not, stalking is a series of repeated, unwanted acts or unpredictable behaviors eliciting fear and emotional distress that can often begin as harmless and turn violent over time. Signs of being stalked include the perpetrator. showing up in places where the victim is. They are intentionally following, watching, spying, or surveilling the victim. Illinois statute 720 ILCS 5/12-7.4 defines aggravated stalking:
