The sun blazed down at me from above as the summer heat threatened to consume me from below. I was juggling a box of bags and an armful of name tags for the exuberant summer campers, and the table twenty feet away seemed like lightyears away. When the box suddenly disappeared from my grasp, I shut my eyes and braced for the inevitable thud of it hitting the ground. I looked up to see a shadow standing over me; another teacher’s assistant had caught up with me and lifted the heavy box from my arms. With a couple of weeks to spare before my internship at a medical research institute, I’d decided to volunteer as a teacher’s assistant at the Ai-Yoh Summer Camp.
