Current event After following HIV positive patients for several years, they have concluded that the virus is not rebounding back even years after they were taken off the medicine. Scientists and researchers say that the number of people with AIDS in the world is on a steady decrease from 2001. Deaths from AIDS have also fallen from 2.3 million to 1.7 million people within a short number of years. This story is important because it shows we are on the verge of a breakthrough for one of the most dangerous viruses in the world. I think that scientists are extremely happy about being this close to discovering a cure for AIDS, and when they do, millions of lives will be saved. It’s also important because it gives any reader that does carry the virus hope to not give up and to keep praying for a cure and that they will be healthy again.
1. Christine Rouzioux said “the new results showed the number of infected cells circulating in the blood of these patients, known as "post-treatment controllers", kept falling even without treatment for many years.”
2. "Early treatment in these patients may have limited the establishment of viral reservoirs, the extent of viral mutations, and preserved immune responses. A combination of those may contribute to control infection in post-treatment controllers," said Rouzioux.
