1. What is the trace metal detection technique? Explain the process.
The trace metal detection technique is most often used in corroboration of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. If a person has contact with a metal object for a certain amount of time the metal ions may transfer from the metal object onto their skin. The ions will react to the trace metal detection solution and fluorescence under an ultraviolet light, the color of the fluorescence light may indicate what type of metal the person was in contact with, the pattern and the general shape of the metal.
