In his article the author talk about learning disabilities in children, developmental disabilities, and genetics of learning disabilities. The author speaks of “the evaluation and management of normal and abnormal neuropsychological development in infancy”. He further states that infant and adult a sense constitutes an important aspect of pediatric neuropsychiatry. Mental retardation was also a main point of the authors article it was referred to as “a heterogeneous disorder” individuals with this condition are not adequately equipped to function intellectually thus causing them to miss out on adaptive skills before reaching their late teenage years. In fact, they also established that the environment in which the individual is connected to is of great importance to their development whether it may be positive or negative. It was also suggested that consideration should be given to racial and ethnic identity development of the adolescent because it is recognized that black children unlike their white counterparts’ ethnicity and race are often elements to identify and create discrepancy, challenges, and opportunities.
Anand in his article “neuropsychiatry of learning disabilities” he refers mainly to the development of the individual from a mental standpoint the writer also emphasizes the term mentality retardation “is a heterogeneous disorder person with mental retardation constitute below average intellectual functioning and compromised adaptive skills commencing before 18 years of age”. Anand also referred to social environment. He mentioned that it was necessary to obtain information about the child’s social environment idea similar to this was also mentioned in Akos and Ellis’s article.
