The Grazing War Horse gives insight and a chance to let people learn about native war horses. It made me realize that although I hear and learn about Native Americans and the fights they have gone through, I’ve never given much thought to the horses who helped them throughout the battle. I’ve never realized how close they are to Native Americans spiritually. It was really interesting learning about the symbols that the horses earned throughout their lives with Native Americans. Horses are a part of the Native American community and I look forward to learning and doing more research on native war horses along with their symbols. This sculpture is round and freestanding. It does not need any structure to support. You can see it from any angle. The theme of the sculpture is the natural world. It represents an animal in the real world. Al Glann has a deep admiration for horses, especially those in Western movies. Themes in the natural world help connect and inspire critical thinking, along with new observations of the world around us. The “Grazing War Horse” is an abstract art piece. It depicts a horse in real life, but it does not accurately represent a horse. Al Glann has a repetitive style throughout his sculptures. He has many sculptures that resemble horses. The purpose of this sculpture is to show people that horses were also given credit for assisting natives in life hence, why they were marked with symbolic meanings. The sculpture is asymmetrical. It is built upon different shapes of lines. The lines are bold and unified to help build the horse's shape. Al Glann may have created this metal sculpture by molding liquid metal into the form of the sculpture.
