I got this idea for my project from my interest in computers. I am very knowledgeable in the subject of computers and the background of computers. The topic of the father of modern computer science, sparked my interest and I was very excited to start researching the topic. First, for my research I wanted to learn what Alan Turing did and how he completed this accomplishment. For this information I went to Britannica, a subscription-based and reliable source, this is provided by the Bettendorf School District. After gathering information about Alan Turing, I searched for videos and documentaries.I found the documentary, Codebreakers directed by Clare Beavan and Nic Stacey. I learned the skill of creating an annotation in an annotated bibliography, and how to manage a Weebly account. These skills are helpful to me, to use in my National History Day project. This topic relates to the theme of exploration because Alan Turing explored his theory of how to break the code of the Nazis. Alan Turing also explored his homosexual tendencies, which led to his arrest on March 31st, 1952, accused for gross indecency for having an affair with another male. Around the time Turing is being treated to cure his homosexual desires, Turing is found dead in his house poisoned with cyanide, this is claimed a suicidal death. This topic is important in history because if Alan Turing had done nothing except sit back, had been afraid of the war and not have helped break the code or created his theory, many people would be dead on his conscience and the freedom and technology that we have today, would not be available. Alan Turing was a huge help to all of the U.K. and America, if it were not for him, many of America’s and The United Kingdom’s lives and technology would not be the same. All of the cell phone users, all of the electronic users, all of their technology might not have been thought of or
