Alcohol. It is a sad thing to say but when people hear this word, they usually get caught up in the glitz and glamour of it without realizing the damage effects it can do to the human body or the consequences for it. According to the NSDUH, there are 139.6 million people in the United States that are current Alcohol consumers and 60.9 million of those people reported that they have been binge drinking for the past month. It has been reported that Alcohol kills teenagers most than all other drugs combined, this makes it the leading cause of death to people ages 15-24. It is also a fact that there are 1.4 million drunk driving arrests in the US every year. I look around me and I see that people get exceptionally excited for any occasion, and the reason to that is usually because “they allow themselves to drink alcohol.” I agree with the advantages that people label alcohol with because I’ve been an excessive alcohol consumer in my early adult years. I relate to people who state that drinking alcohol lets them open up, be more social, and have more fun, this is true. Going out with friends and bar hopping, led me to believe that if I do not have more than 5 drinks, I won’t “turn down for what,” or as the younger people refer to as having a great time.

Excessive alcohol consumption always leads to a hangover the next day which is caused by a number of things like being dehydrated or too tired before drinking as well as drinking more than your body weight can handle. Some symptoms of hangovers are nausea, headaches, dizziness, body aches and thirst.
