Alexander the great was one of the world’s greatest military commanders that ever walked on this green earth. Even though he died in June in the year 323 Bc, i guarantee he’s on the list for the world’s greatest military commander. When he died he left basically the world changed. He is recognized greatly not only for his military tactics, but also because he played a important role in cultural diffusion.
Alexander was born July 356 BC in Pella, Greece. He was the son of Philip II of Macedon and his mother was named Olympias. Alexander never really saw his father because he was usually on long military campaigns, however, Olympias was a very fierce and possessive mom. Bucephalus is considered to be the most famous horse in history. The way Alexander met his steed, proved Alexander’s worth. Bucephalus was actually a gift to his father. The steed was black and stood taller than most horses in Macedon. But Alexander’s father thought the horse was too wild and unmanageable, so he ordered the horse away. Alexander watched this take place with his mother and as the attendants were trying to take him away, Alexander called them out saying they were “spineless” . Alexander challenged his father saying if he was able to tame the horse, he’d pay for him. Alexander approached the horse even though everyone was watching and laughing at him. While he was walking towards him, he realized something no one else has. Bucephalus was actually scared of his own shadow. Alexander quickly turned the horse to the sun so the shadow would be behind the horse. Slowly taking the reins, Alexander mounted him. As the crowds laughter turned to cheers, Alexander rode off. Alexander were inseparable and in every battle, Alexander rode his trusty steed. Bucephalus refused to let anyone ride him except Alexander. Bucephalus was actually kidnapped after the defeat of darius King of the Achaemenid empire. Alexander swore he’d slaughter every inhabitant and in the fear, the kidnappers returned the horse.
