At the beginning, Alice is sitting with her sister along a riverbank when the White Rabbit goes by talking about him being late. He goes down a rabbit hole, which Alice follows behind. She then finds herself in a hall of locked doors with only one small door she can go through since she has a key. On the other hand, she is too large, so she drinks and eats things to make her small enough to enter through the small entryway. She starts to cry when she is large, but then shrinks and almost drowns in her own tears. After getting out of her tears, she decided to have a caucus-race with a group of animals in order to dry herself. They have fun until Alice mentions her cat, Dinah, which scares all the animals especially a mouse. The animals then scurry away and leave Alice alone crying once again. After shrinking, she runs away into the woods where she meets a Caterpillar smoking a pipe on a mushroom. He gives her pieces of mushroom to help her with her size. After a few mishaps, she obtains the right size and continues on her journey. She then sees footmen that are half frog and half fish outside of a house. She discovers the Queen invited the Duchess to play croquet and enters the house. Meeting the Duchess, a baby, a cook, and the Cheshire Cat, the house was in total chaos, so Alice rescued the baby and found it morphed into a pig. Alone again, Alice sees the Cheshire Cat who says everyone in Wonderland is mad, or crazy. He then directs Alice to where the tea party takes place, the March Hare’s residence. Attending the tea party, Alice is rudely criticized by the Dormouse, the Mad Hatter, and the March Hare. Leaving, Alice encounters a tree with a door in it and enters to be back at the hall with doors. Finally able to control her size, Alice is small enough to enter the tiny door and finds a beautiful
