There are a lot of symbols in the book All Quiet on the Western Front that will help the reader understand the book better. One of the symbols in the book is kKemmerich's boots. Kemmerich’s excellent boots are past from soldier to soldier as each owner dies. Kemmerich also took them from a corpse of a airman, and as kKemmerich dies, mMuller begins to receive the boots. PPaul brings them to mMuller and then when muller dies later in the novel pPaul receives them it represents the cheapness of human life in the war. A good pair of boots is more valuable and durable than a human life. The boots also symbolize the necessary attitude that a soldier must have. Like the pants in the sisterhood of the traveling pants, these boots get passed aro=und.
