Abraham Lincoln is arguably the most recognized and one of the most important presidents in United States History. Author and historian, Allen C. Guelzo offer in detail the life of Abraham Lincoln, as well as Lincoln’s personal life and Ideology in his short biography, Lincoln: A Very Short Introduction. Guelzo’s biography is a knowledgeable and insightful outlook on not only his philosophical and political ideas but Lincoln’s history as well. It provides valuable information about a man who rid the United States of the institution of slavery and led the Union to victory during the time of the Civil War.

Guezlo not only educates the readers on the history of Lincoln but as well as, Lincolns’ ancestors, who migrated to America, chronicling the events prior to Lincoln. The author does a fantastic job on pointing out the events and mistakes of Lincoln’s predecessor, which shaped the social and economic state of the United States, which Lincoln was forced to confront through his career in politics and as President, addressing the key political issues that lead to the Lincoln being always remembered in history.
In the latter part of his book, Guezlo shifts his focuses more on the person. Guezlo thoroughly depicts with his words Lincoln’s political career as a Republican and Whig and the events which won Lincoln the Presidency in 1860. Guezlo presents an overview of Lincoln’s roles as commander-in-Chief during the Civil War and the principals of Lincoln’s leadership which aided in the Union’s victory in the Civil
