However, at the beginning of the war, the Allied technical and operational deficiencies meant that the impact of bombing on German morale was very limited. They counted any hit within five miles of the target as a success and this low standard meant the Germans were not particularly affected by the bombardments and could carry on with their war effort without being fully concerned about the Allied attacks. At this early stage in the war, the Allied bombing thus had a largely insignificant impact on German morale.
