The general population often associated health care providers with physicians and nurses. An integral part that is overlook are the allied health professionals. These individuals constitute approximately 60% of all health care providers (facts). Allied health professionals includes diagnostic medical sonographers, medical technologists, radiological technicians, surgical technicians, pharmacy technician, occupational therapy assistants, cardiovascular technicians and many more. These nurses are certified as Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA). RNFA assist the surgeon in the care of patient before, during, and after operative procedures. SICP was established with support by physician who recognized the need for development of professional standards for non-physician invasive cardiovascular team member. SICP recognize cardiovascular technicians who are certified through CCI as Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) and Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES).
