Ethan Yost (Partner: Nithin Suresh) CHEM 1115 Section 68.

I. Abstract In this experiment, the concentrations of Allura Red in three beverages were found. To do this, five Allura Red solutions were made and their absorbances were used to construct a calibration curve. Then, 7-Up, Gatorade, and Powerade solutions were created and analyzed in a spectrophotometer. The concentrations of Allura Red in each beverage were 0.11 mM for Gatorade, 0.10 mM for Powerade, and 0.0074 mM for 7-Up. Finally, the mass of Allura Red in each beverage and the limit to how many bottles of each beverage are safe to consume daily were determined.

II. Introduction Allura Red is a dye that
