The community emphasizes brotherhood by following the saying that “trust, respect, cooperation, companionship and aid to brothers is the expected norm” (“AKPsi Today”). The community does not view its members simply as members, but rather as family. This is shown in the way members communicate with each other. In certain instances it is important to behave and communicate professionally. With this being said, what allows the community to be so close and for everyone to be so invested in each other’s success is the informal form of communication you have with friends and family. The element of love and family is what allows the organization to be a discourse community. Everyone is so invested in helping others and promoting the education and success of their peers due to the elements of friendship and brotherhood you form. A current freshman, Rachel Beir, explains “For me, coming in as a freshman and having so many seniors be willing and ready to help me succeed and welcome me into the family was very special and something that makes me want to do the same in the future.” This element of selflessness of the older generation helping the younger generation is contagious and is what allows stability of the chapter and for the community to
