The most commonly seen risk factors are those that have cerebrovascular disease, elevated blood pressure, those with type2 diabetes, body weight being underweight or overweight, dyslipidemia, metabolic syndrome, psychological stress, Down syndrome, and brain injuries (Reitz, Brayne, & Mayeux, 2011, p. 138-142). There is also a genetic risk factor that includes having some sort of mutation in chromosome 21, 14, 1, 19, 8, and 11 and also having a first degree relative with Alzheimer’s (Castellani et al, 2010, p. 35-38). Their mission is “to eliminate Alzheimer's disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health,” (Heart of America Chapter | Alzheimer's Association, 2014). Currently they are working diligently to reduce this disparity by raising money and providing awareness through walk events, art auctions and athletics events. They also have formed support groups that help not only those living with Alzheimer’ but family and friends struggling from financial, emotional and physical challenges due to having a close relative living with Alzheimer’s. They have multiple ways of allowing others to get the support or help they need through email, phone, group settings and programs. This association also allows for professional training so that these individuals received the right care and that professionals are informed and capable of dealing with those who live with this
