The second picture is a third-person illustration of her drowning in which one can see the Haitian flag sinking underneath her. While I was unable to draw a chain/anchor, the flag is used to symbolize an anchor as it was her past from Haiti, and her connection to her fellow Haitians that weighed her down spiritually. The reason being, that the death of her parents was a part of her past in Haiti, and if it was not for the fact that she was Haitian, she would not have felt out of place. In the case of the latter, this is a reference to how she felt that she must boast her Haitain pride and not get too close with the Dominicans because that is what many Haitians such as Sebastien believed. However, this mental and emotional baggage stopped her from embracing the opportunity of her life as she was loved by Senora Valencia. It was ultimately the shackles of her past that caused her to leave to Haiti, return to the Dominican Republican years later, and die in the Massacre
