The United States of America has been structured to its current status by a series of remarkable events in its rich history that has helped the nation advance in several aspects. The events have helped the country learn more and grow in different aspects of its development such as infrastructure, military, rights, medicine, governance and industrialization among others. The following paper seeks to discuss the significant events that shaped the United States from 1900 to 1945 and their impacts towards Americans, immigrants regarding consumerism, technological advancement and expansion of political powers. It also the impact of the Second World War on the lives of immigrants in the US.

Some of these changes occurred as a result of technological advancement, consumerism and expansion of political powers and government. Regarding technological advancement, one of the remarkable technological events that placed America in the forefront was the building of the jet engine by Sir Frank Whittle in 1937 (Bellis 1). The invention later led to the advancement of the United States military which is seen up to date as an active military in the air force making it one of the strongest in the world. Regarding consumerism, in the year 1920, the government encouraged the citizens of America to buy goods on credit with the idea of “buy now – pay later” (Corkum 1). The ‘move’ ended up causing a great depression in the United States with a high number of people not having any savings in their account after the government encouraged them to embrace consumerism. A nationwide depression emerged among the citizens that is remembered to this date. Finally, expansion of political powers and government mostly happened after America emerged strong and unharmed by the Second World War (Ellis et al. 1). America had the opportunity to expand its political and government powers internationally through setting up alliances such the North Atlantic Treaty Organization
