The case The United States of America v. Ross William Ulbricht (2013) is a case I believe had an astronomical contribution to ensuring a harmonious and peaceful society.
Ross Ulbricht was the man that founded one of the largest online illegal marketplaces in history: The Silk Road. Ulbricht founded the website at the age of 29, in 2009. Ulbricht had a masters degree in materials science and engineering. Ulbricht made ends meet by way of day trading and an online bookselling business. He operated under the alias: Dread Pirate Roberts (From the novel; The Princess Bride. Dread Pirate Roberts was a series of individuals that operated under one name. The website was essentially an online black market, where everything from drugs, weapons, counterfeit legal documents, counterfeit currency, stolen bank cards and assassinations could be purchased easily. Bitcoin allows users to purchase items online without a bank being involved, making it arduous to trace. Ulbricht would make his money by means of commission on each item sold on the website.
