Is the American Dream Still Alive? Many factors come into play when the subject of the American dream is brought up. These consist of worries about whether or not in this current age the American dream could even still be achieved. As seen within the videos and articles, the struggles of lower-middle-class Americans are brought to light as many try to prevent themselves from slipping into poverty and achieving the American Dream. Examples include the Neumans, whose family has different issues in contrast but was greatly affected by financial struggles, and the Stanleys, who also had similar struggles financially. Lastly, Rick Rigby, whose father was a dropout in the third grade, could have been a challenge, but he defied the hand he was dealt and viewed his father as one of the wisest people he knows and he credits most of his success to. These stressors and issues end up hurting the family more than benefitting them starting with Terry and Tony sadly becoming divorced and before this, their son Daniel ended up struggling in school due to the family's financial issues and long hours leading to an empty house. Years later, divorced Terry Neuman ended up losing her house of 25 years due to being unable to pay the house payments, resulting in her having to live in the house as a caretaker of a close friend. The Stanleys, the second of the “Two American families,” also had struggles regarding getting on their feet, achieving the American Dream and becoming financially stable.
