In this class, I have gained knowledge about the discrimination, which continues to exist in the United States’ society against minority groups. Specifically, in my American Studies class, we examined the prejudice, which exists in the mass incarceration system, the legacy of slavery on the treatment of African Americans, the history of the treatment of Native Americans in the United States and the challenges Native Americans continue to face on reservations. Currently, in this class, we are studying the internment of Japanese Americans during WWII. My favorite project in my American Studies class was when we created infographs about the problems with the American mass incarceration. My infograph was focused on prejudice within the Juvenile Mass Incarceration System. We presented these projects at an info graphic fair. Without a doubt, the infographic project prepared me for college, where I will likely have to create infographs or other posters, which convey important facts about social justice issues and present the information to others.
