Archaeologists who carried out the excavations in the impressive monument on the hill of Amphipolis Kasta tomb, seem to be close to revealing a big secret hidden in the two female figures.
The two Caryatids are made of Thassian marble and this is the first time these figures are found in an Macedonian tomb, therefore archaeologists are convinced that the dead lying in the grave was certainly of major importance and this could even be the Alexander The Great tomb. The Caryatids were supporting the architrave in front of the second septal wall and their positioning prevents entry to the tomb, while the technique used is the same with the two sphinxes already found during the excavations.

Archaeologists have said that the Amphipolis site appeared to be the largest ancient tomb to have been discovered in Greece.
This is therefore a unique grave so far. Theories abound about who could be buried in the tumulus tomb, ranging from Alexander's Bactrian wife Roxane, to his mother Olympias or one of his generals.
Experts say the chances of Alexander himself being buried there are small, however.
After his death at 32 in Babylon, the most celebrated conquerer of the ancient world is believed to have been buried in Alexandria, the Egyptian city he founded — although no grave has ever been found there.
The decoration of the ceiling above the Caryatids has been found in many funeral burials in Greece. In this case, however, it acquires another meaning. If one considers that it there is the symbol of the Macedonian dynasty of Philip the second and Alexander the Great, then it easy to understand that we deal with a royal
