We have to accept what we have and what we are; a person’s individuality is what makes them who they are, in this essay “Fish Cheeks” Amy explains the difficulty of deciphering where the determinant lies between fittings in and forgetting who we are. Amy's mother understood her feelings, and knows that Amy was ashamed of what happened in the dinner. So after the dinner, her mother give her a mini skirt, which every American girls used to wore, so she didn’t have to be ashamed because she didn’t wear like the American girls wore. Amy and her mother knew that whatever she wore and trying to ate and act she couldn't change her reality. She wills still a Chinese girl, with Chinese culture. So the author was trying to tell us that whatever who you are you have to be the same person don’t just change your personality and don’t be ashamed of who you are.
