Ishmael Beah’s memoir, “A Long Way Gone," details his agonizing experience as a child soldier in Sierra Leone’s civil war. These innocent children are victims and survivors, not criminals, and they deserve rehabilitation and reintegration into society. As governments refuse to take responsibility for them, non-governmental groups must intervene with initiatives that change the lives of former child soldiers and successfully reintegrate them into society.
