A Mystery of Heroism by Stephen Crane, shows a different aspect of a hero and what another may view as a heroic point of view is not the same to someone else. Not only did Collins felt like what he did was not heroic due to his past when he borrowed his friend money and avoided him because he did not pay him back and the guilt that he felt towards his mother. Crane used metaphor to introduce the sound of the guns which gave noise that seem like arguments between two people. While this is all going on Collins states that he needed a drink and wonders if there was any source of water around them. Ahead of them was a well, Collins comrade started teasing him that if he needed water so bad, he should go past through the war to get the water. Collins let him to do dangerous things without him actually considering the circumstances. When he realized his mistakes, not only did he walk into a path of danger but now all his worries seem to appear. For someone to be considered as a hero they need to have the ability to do something voluntarily, Help someone or group and be able to risk their life for something beneficial. “Heroes have no shame in their lives”, this is an unfactual statement because some heroes do have faults in their lives, which makes them want to do something
