Abstract
This paper is going to be over Cripple Creek Cycles, a small retail motorcycle shop that is owned, and operated by myself. I have had the business for about 14 years. It will also go over the management, the legal, social, and financial operations of the business.
MANAGEMENT AND ORGANIZATION The legal name of my business is Cripple Creek Cycles. It is a retail motorcycle shop that I sell leather products for men, women, and children. I sell motorcycle gloves, facemasks, boots, helmets, eyeglasses and goggles. For the motorcycle I sell almost anything that a biker would want on his or her bike. If I do not have it in stock, I can get it within just a few days. In some cases, I can have it the next business day. I also sell accessories for the biker and the bike. There is not much I do not have or can get. I do not do any servicing because of shop space and the cost of owning a regular shop building and equipment to do the servicing. Beings I do not have a standard shop to work out of, I work out of a 24 foot enclosed trailer along with a 10 ft. x 20 ft. tent enclosure. I do not have the 24 hour security to worry about, by having the trailer at my residence. The legal aspects of my business are very cut and dried. I do not need a regular business license where I live, because I live in the county and they do not require a business license, just to have a Federal resale number that is needed for resale. I also have to keep up on the different states laws on what is needed for selling at their rallies. Some of them require you fill out special forms of resale, others need that plus business license and others just need your resale number to know that you are who you say you are and not just there to sell things. Every rally I go to I have to produce papers that show I have enough insurance to cover not only myself but the rally holders. They require you to have enough to cover at least $100,000 minimum coverage. I cannot afford to keep that kind of policy all of the time, so I have a special policy with my insurance
Company. It covers me to and from the rally, while I am there, while selling and people are on my site. While the trailer is at my residence, it and the contents are covered by my homeowners under a special provision in my home policy. My truck is covered by my regular automotive insurance policy. There are not too many legal things associated with this business as long as I keep up on the states I go to policies on making state taxes and having a legitimate resale number. Socially I have one of the best jobs for having a large social environment. If you have not been to a regular motorcycle rally, you have to go to one because it is a once in a lifetime experience. If you go to a rally, a big wide open one, such Big Sturgis, you will be totally amazed at the different types and groups of people you will meet. There are different bike types of bike groups from all over the USA and even from abroad and Canada. It is like walking around the world in a small area. You meet people from all walks of life, different nationalities, and from the rich to poor. By walking around the rally from site to site, meeting and talking to the different groups, you can really enjoy yourself while being very social. At a rally such as this there is not a difference in races, colors, or background. Everyone is considered either a brother or sister. Even at a large rally there are hardly any fights or disagreements. Everyone gets along with all no matter where you are from or what nationality you are. Socially, this business lets me rub elbows with people from all over the world, not just the USA. It has afforded me the opportunity to be alongside, talk, mingle and play, plus do business with people from all types of social backgrounds.
Economically, I am in an area that has a very high unemployment
