The setting of Elly, My True Story of the Holocaust first starts in the ghetto of Cehei and then changes to Auschwitz II/Birkenau. The time was about 1944. The mood in the ghetto was dark and mental. In the ghetto it was crowded, there was people squished into little houses with random strangers. You were surrounded by guards with no way of escape even if you did they will find you. There was almost no way to get sleep with all the people talking and the guards treated us like a piece of useless garbage, people didn't care about you not even a single bit. The mood in Auschwitz was terrifying and heartbreaking you were stuck inside of a fence with barbed wire and no chance of escape.
