I, Too Sing, America
Too, the most powerful word in I, Too, Sing America by Langston Hughes represents every American. The African Americans being segregated and treated with hostility, express their patriotism and assert their rightful position. “The darker brother,” (Benton and DiYanni 387) as presented by Hughes is patriotic and will by any means, declare his American identity as explained by (Funari 2013). The word too, does not negate the patriotism of the rest of the population in America. Conversely, the patriotism of every American is emphasized, he says “I, too, am American,” implying the nationalism of every American, African-Americans included.
