“My hips are a desk.” and “Rubber bands form my hair.” this is just the beginning of a personification that Marge Pierce is trying to show on “The Secretary Chant”. The poem tell us tells us a story a of a woman that lost her humanity to her job. The idea of comparison between the objects of the office with parts of the body of a woman, is just to show us the woman as a machine without a purpose of life. Piercy try to show us an image of a woman as a miserable worker who sits day in and day out at her desk performing her job with no perspective of better life.
