The course readings from Week 5 brought to light how stereotypes are established in our society today. They showed how inferential racism plays a role in continuing racism, which was something I never realized occurred. For example, in Michael Omi’s essay, “In Living Color: Race and American Culture,” he points out that black people are never able to rise in the higher positions in management of any industry, whether it be sports are music. This led me to think of the unspoken stereotypes many people have in the US towards Muslims. Although recently racism towards Muslims has become overt, it has been quite insidious since the early 90’s due to political issues in the East.
My ideas changed quite drastically in the beginning of the formation
