The boy in the striped pajamas, “the lottery”, and the NY times article all seem like different texts, but all have a common theme. They all contain the theme of having to sacrifice something in order to make either their lives or society better. In “the lottery”, the person who was stoned to death was the unfortunate sacrifice of the society for their further survival. In the movie The boy in the striped pajamas the sacrifice was the by expansion of their territories and cause of death and destruction. They thought that they were working for their own good in the future putting their lives as superior to others. The NY times article also contained some cruelty and injustice for the workers because they weren't paid enough to pay the bills
