In Shapiro’s article, titled “Transformative Assests, the Racial Wealth Gap, and the American Dream”, he argues something extremely important that caught my attention as to why different races have either a disadvantage or advantage in terms of seeking the so called “American Dream”. He uses “transformative assets” to explain how these assets are passed down between generations of families, which create a stabled environment both socially and economically. One key example that he used is family inheritance. Shapiro uses his evidence to explain that there is a noticeable wage gap difference between middle-class white suburban families and inner city African American families.
