Revealing Baser Aspects of Humanity

A good short story provides readers with more insight on a certain topic that is not
often thought about. Characters in short stories help the readers understand a huge
conflict in society. In the short story “The Stolen Party” by Liliana Hecker, the authors
gives the readers perception on how people of different status live and how they are
treated. For instance, Rosaura, the daughter of a maid, is invited to a party at a wealthy
woman’s house as a worker for a birthday party but Rosaura believes she is there as a
guest. Rosaura is handed money by the rich woman as a payment when she leaves the party. “Thank you for all your help, my pet.”(5) Rosaura is handed the money
