In the passage The Worst Years of Our Lives by Barbara Ehrenreich, the author portrays her opinion on society in the 1980's and their television habits. Ehrenreich begins by describing her own experience when she discovered that the American people were turning into "root vegetables" and that it was different than when the television era first began because people did many of the things that were shown on television.
