Timothy Hsiao received his master’s degree in philosophy from Florida State University and currently teaches at Florida Southwestern State College. Hsiao is a strong proponent for the mortality of eating meat and while his argument that animals have no moral standing contradicts Tardiff’s argument that animals do, he maintains the view that animals do have a different moral standing than humans, “Depending on the community, not all members of the community may share the same amount of standing” (par 12). One of the strengths of “In Defense of Eating meat” is the author engages his opponents with sufficient evidence and attempts to construct his argument by incorporating vegetarian viewpoints, “If the argument I offer is successful, then we have a way of maintaining both sets of intuitions” …show more content…
Daniel Engster received his PhD from the University of Chicago and is a professor in the Political Science department at the University of Texas in San Antonio. Daniel Engster claims in his article that we have a responsibility to care for the animals we make dependent upon us. He furthers his argument by saying “we all should refrain from using animal products, or at least take special care to consume animal products only from farmers who raise and kill animals according to these guidelines.” There are therefore ethical ways to consume meat when consideration is given to the care and comfort of the
