A. Capote employs ethos to persuade the reader by humanizing the murders. Ethos is when one appeals to the reader’s ethics. When the reader first starts reading, they notice the extreme amount of detail that capote uses to describe the situation. This makes it feel more like a fiction book rather than a plain account of what happened. Perry is an important character as he is part of the murder case. He wants to be the good guy and not get locked up. “Perry, as the parole car drew alongside, nodded.” This quote shows that he feels guilty for the crime that he did. This shows that even though he did the crime and that he is a murder he still feels bad for the crime that he did instead of feeling happy that he did a crime. This humanizes him.
