In the text “The Collected Works of Billy the Kid” the reader will recognize there is more then one genre present once dissected. The reader may or may not have future stereotypes on what the genre should portray in the text, however this text then creates meaning by challenge present knowledge and giving new meanings. The genre in this text can be seen as western, giving the reader a meaning that it will be based around fights with gun on a horse and in a desert. The western genre helps make meaning by reinforcing the poems and stories with the idea of how this text should be perceived. However when reading the text these meanings can be challenged since the reader’s imagination or perception could alter the devolvement of these meanings.
