I would say that I very much agree with Mortenson's thesis. I personally believe that good things can happen because of trials or hardships. I am also in strong agreement that taking the time to build relationships is very important. Throughout the book there are countless examples of the significance of his mission in the Pakistan and Afghanistan region. The fact that he could not do everything on his to-do list made Mortenson aware of the fact that if you can't accomplish plan A then you need to be prepared to make a plan B. Mortenson is known for being unprepared and never took the time to plan things out. Hardships are hard to accept, but Mortenson believed that was no reason to stop living. Mortenson was devastated and so was his family, in honor of his sister’s memory he decided he would climb K2 to place her favorite necklace at the summit. Unfortunately he did not make it to the summit but on his journey to recovery he did find a way to make this trip more meaningful. He thought he was on his way to Askole but he ended up in the village of Korphe, where he was later to find out that they needed a school. When he was with the children of Korphe it reminded him of his sister and he went back to when Christa was still alive, and remembered that everything about her life was a struggle, just like the Korphe children. He was also very touched at the way they still kept on going no matter the circumstances, just like his sister Christa did for so long. The children of korphe did not have a school, yet they still kept on with their studies and didn't give up and that reminded mortenson of his sister christa's determination to the end. he was so moved by the students perserverance and he felt compelled to build them a school with his remaing money. He felt that this school was not only going to leave a memory for the area but it would be his way of making a memory for christa's
