The Boston Massacre was a development of reactions to the Quartering Act in which several British soldiers were dispatched to calm a rowdy group of young colonists. Panic ensued, and the British ended up firing at the crowd. This event taking place on March 5, 1770, was in fact, a massacre because colonist provocation was slight at worst and the British troops had an intent to kill defenseless Bostonian citizens. In the pieces of evidence relating to the Boston Massacre, citizens have either none or prehistoric weapons. Compared to British firearms, the colonists were practically harmless. For example, in Paul Revere’s image, the colonists completely lacked any form of weapons. The Boston Gazette shows that the main form of
